Benzenesulfonate (306, 1.0 g, 4.2 mmol) was added to stirring benzylamine (5.0 g, 46.0 mmol), warmed to room temperature, stirred for 48 hrs and quenched with saturated NaHCO3 solution (50.0 ml).  The product was extracted into diethyl ether (3 x 100 mL), the combined organic extracts washed with water (4 x 50 mL), brine (50.0 mL), dried over MgSO4, filtered and the solvent removed under reduced pressure.  Distillation under reduced pressure (121°C, 19 torr) followed by column chromatography (SiO2, 0-100 % Et2O:petroleum including 5 % Et3N) afforded the title product as a clear oil (350 mg, 1.7 mmol, 46 %).
